Which VAT rates apply in Switzerland?

Since 1 January 2024: 8.1 % (standard rate), 2.6 % (reduced rate, e.g. food, books, medicines) and 3.8 % (special rate for accommodation).

How do I calculate net from gross?

Divide the gross amount by (1 + rate). At the standard rate: 108.10 / 1.081 = 100.00 net, the VAT is 8.10.

As a rule from a worldwide turnover of CHF 100,000 per year from taxable supplies. Below that, voluntary registration is possible. The Swiss Federal Tax Administration (ESTV) gives binding information.
